The Reserve Men made it three wins from three outings as they recorded a comfortable victory over Derrylin on Sunday morning, the O’Rahilly’s running out 5-12 to 1-7 winners by full time.
It was a relatively easy hour for the home team who could have should have had more scores on the board and will need to work on taking their opportunities for tougher games ahead. Belcoo made a bright start without scoring, a free from the visitors the opening score on 3minutes before Belcoo hit the first of their five goals. Daryl Kelly with a good through ball to Niall Cullen and he fired to the net. Gary Maguire, Cullen and Kelly all added points as Belcoo held a 1-3 to 0-1 lead on 10minutes.
Michael McGourty and Ian Corrigan had done will in the build up to Gary Maguire’s next point while Matthew McAloon slotted over a free kick. Derrylin hit their only goal on the counterattack down the right side with the ball being palmed to the net having been fisted across the goal. 17minutes played, 1-6 v 1-1.
Matthew McAloon created a score for Daryl Kelly, Niall Cullen had to withdraw with a hamstring strain. McAloon slotted another free before Derrylin got a second point of the game. Coming to half time Belcoo continued to hold sway, Gerard Mellor and James McGourty were on top in the middle sector, Dean McDermott was controlling the half back line while the forwards continued to be given a good supply of ball.
Matthew McAloon would tuck away a penalty after substitute Michael Maguire was fouled while Dean McDermott slotted over the last point of the half after a full-length move went through the hands, keeper Gary Doherty, Michael McGourty, Gerard Mellor and Gary Maguire all involved before McDermott registered the score. Half time Belcoo 2-8 v 1-2 Derrylin.
There were early second half points from Kelly and McDermott either side of a Derrylin score. Any fightback the visitors were planning to muster never materialised. Belcoo took a further grip of the contest with a double goal blast by Matthew McAloon as twice the O’Rahilly’s cut through the defence with ease as they pushed 4-10 to 1-3 ahead.
Derrylin had a short spell where they registered three in a row. Belcoo though continued to find the target, Dean McDermott slotted over following a Crossfield ball from substitute Emmet Scollan while Scollan and Daryl Kelly combined to create McDermott’s goal 8minutes from time. It was McDermott who pointed Belcoo’s last score a few minutes later. The O’Rahilly’s comfortable winners.
