Belcoo O’Rahilly’s GAA Hosts Successful Good Relations Project, Bridging Communities and Cultures

Belcoo O’Rahilly’s GAA Club recently ran a successful Good Relations project, funded by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council (FODC) Good Relations funding. The project brought together a diverse group of 32 participants from various backgrounds, including new members from Slovakia, Wales, England, and the Protestant community.
The project, delivered by Belcoo O’Rahilly’s Gaelic for Mothers and Others and Dads and Lads programs, offered participants the unique opportunity to be introduced to Gaelic games. For many, it was their first encounter with the sport, providing not only a chance to engage in physical activity but also a valuable cultural experience. The initiative helped foster new friendships, increased understanding of Irish heritage, and celebrated diversity within the community.
The success of the program underscores the importance of promoting good relations and community integration, as people from various walks of life came together to share in the joy of Gaelic games and Irish culture. Through these efforts, participants were able to learn more about the rich traditions of Gaelic football while building lasting connections with their fellow participants and neighbours.
Belcoo O’Rahilly’s GAA Club extends a heartfelt thank you to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Good Relations Team for their generous funding and unwavering support throughout the project. Special thanks go to Hugo Sweeney for his instrumental role in ensuring the success of the initiative. We also want to thank to facilitators who delivered the program and our own club members who supported them in doing so.
“We are delighted with the success of this project and the positive impact it has had on our local community,” said Karan McLernon, Belcoo O’Rahilly’s G4MO Coordinator. “We are proud to have welcomed so many new participants from different backgrounds and to have had the opportunity to share our culture with them. We are delighted that many of them are going to continue to participate with the club and we look forward to building these connections in the future.”
